If the yield on a corporate bond, gilt or other fixed interest security is fixed and interest rates go up, the relative yield will be reduced as may its capital value. In addition investing in corporate bonds carries the risk of the issuer becoming insolvent. In this case, the bondholder would rank as an unsecured creditor in the liquidation and may not recover all or any of the debt due. The funds may also invest in derivatives which carry additional risks. Where overseas investments are held, the rate of exchange may cause the value of such investments to go down as well as up. Investments in emerging markets are by their nature higher risk and potentially more volatile than those inherent in established markets.
